Oneil Benn, called “Hotskull”, who is wanted for a string of armed robberies, opened fire on Police at a roadblock at Lewis Manor on the Corentyne highway Monday night and then disappeared after running into nearby rice fields.

The News Room was reliably informed that Police ranks, acting on a tip off, set up a roadblock at Lewis Manor (No. 19 village). At around 21:00 hrs, they stopped a black Toyota Fielder Wagon driven by a 32-year-old man from Lad Lane, New Amsterdam.

The car, which had three other occupants, attempted to turn around when they saw the Police roadblock.

An occupant of the car, identified as Benn, opened fire on the Police. The Police returned fire and gave chase on foot. They noticed blood stains and discovered the gun with ammunition nearby, an indication that the suspect was injured.

Police sources have since disclosed that the three others in the car have been arrested after they were found with a Lorcin .380 Pistol with a magazine and two live rounds.

The Toyota wagon car Benn was in has since been impounded at the Central Police Station.
