The Government Analyst- Food and Drug Department (GA-FDD) is investigating a food tampering racket following reports that some city businesses were allegedly replacing the expiry date of imported diet Pepsi.
“We haven’t completed the investigation but we are investigating a food product,” the Food and Drug Director Tandeka Barton confirmed on Wednesday.
The imported soda is reportedly being distributed by a Campbellville, Georgetown business.
The News Room understands that the Police are also investigating the matter.
Police sources say the authorities are in possession of invoices as well as samples of the drink.
In the meantime, the public is being urged to be vigilant when purchasing food items. Consuming expired food items can have severe consequences for the health and safety of consumers.
