One year after opening the doors to its first store in Guyana, Payless – the internationally-recognised footwear company – is expanding its footprint to the Amazonia Mall, Providence, East Bank Demerara.

The second store was opened on Thursday with a simple ceremony and provides customers wider shopping aisles, more styles and sizes.

The store is stocked with over 17,000 pairs of shoes, handbags and accessories, providing people with the right trend, quality and comfortable shoes at the best possible price.

In 2021, Payless opened its first store in Guyana at the MovieTowne Mall.

Country Manager for the footwear company, Jerus Mohammed, noted that there are over 600 stores worldwide and over 90 in the Caribbean.

“We are proud to expand our store count in the English-speaking Caribbean, and to continue to serve people that have always supported our value proposal, that believed in our company, our products and our stores,” Mohammed said.

According to Mohammed, the company’s mission is to become the “go to, get more and payless shoe store.”

“With this new store, we are confirming our commitment to serving Guyana and it is a significant step for Payless as we expand our footprint in the rapidly growing Guyanese marketplace,” Mohammed said.

He explained that when the company entered the Guyana market, management was confident that they would be able to provide a footwear solution for Guyana that did not exist before.

“Your feedback and testimonials have shown that the people of Guyana have welcomed us with very open arms.”

The company was lauded by the Secretary of the Georgetown Chambers of Commerce and Industry Shaleeza Shaw for its 100 per cent Guyanese staff makeup.

“I want to congratulate you on the commitment to Guyana, on the confidence in our country, on helping to create employment for Guyanese and we are here to support you at the Chambers,” Shaw said.

Shaw said the company’s commitment to Guyana is evident with the opening of a second store.
