Ex-lover confesses to murdering woman after she asked him for money

Nazaleen Mohammed was killed by her ex-lover after she asked him for some money and he did not have enough. The suspect, Deonarine Sawh called “Boyzie”, has reportedly confessed to the gruesome act.

Sawh, 65, of Hope Estate and Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, Berbice, told investigators that after Mohammed asked him for the money, he went to her Hope Lowland, East Coast Demerara, on Monday.

But after he did not have enough money, they got into an argument. He then proceeded to chop the woman several times about her body with a cutlass.

The man detailed that he walked away and Mohammed fell into the canal along with her purse, phone and the murder weapon.

Sawh then proceeded to an abandoned house at Mahaica and claimed that he consumed a poisonous substance. He is currently hospitalised under police guard.

Two days after the murder, Sawh was arrested at the abandoned house during a pre-dawn operation by the Police.

Police Headquarters had reported that after it issued a wanted bulletin for Sawh on Tuesday it received feedback from members of the public.

The battered body of Mohamed was found floating in the canal on Monday afternoon.

Sawh was reportedly last heard on a distressing phone call with Mohammed.

It is believed that Mohammed was killed sometime between 07:00hrs and 15:00hrs on Monday.

She was last seen alive leaving her house at around 07:00hrs by her neighbour.

According to the police, at about 08:05 hrs, Mohammed’s 32-year-old son received a call from her (his mother’s) cellphone and he heard a male voice whom he identified as Sawh.

At around 15:00 hrs, Mohammed’s neighbour left in search of her and while walking along Hope Lowlands Railway Embankment, the neighbour saw the body in the canal.
