Driver flees scene after ramming into crowd, killing man & injuring others

Police are on the hunt for a driver who drove into a crowd of people at Canefield Settlement, East Canje Berbice in the wee hours of Sunday, killing a man and injuring three others, including an 11-year-old boy.

Dead is 51-year-old Somdatt Indal, also known as “Fats” of Lot 1178 Canefield Settlement.

Those injured have been identified as Daniel Sackichand, 21, of Adelphi Village; Dion Kistnen, 11, a student of Canje Secondary School and Leon Revon, 34, of East Canefield.

The driver has been identified as Shazad Sattaur

The driver of the Tacoma vehicle has been identified as Shazad Sattaur. The News Room understands that Indal was at a wedding house in the area when the driver rammed into the crowd of people.

The now deceased man, along with Sackichand and the 11-year-old boy were flung in the air as a result of the incident. They were all rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where Indal was pronounced dead.

The News Room was informed that a young man at the wedding house and others were involved in an argument when he phoned his cousin, a contractor, who arrived in his Tacoma vehicle.

Eyewitnesses related that the vehicle bore the sign of N&S Contracting. It is alleged that some of the persons at the location attempted to block his vehicle when he drove into the crowd of people.

The driver is caught on video driving away from the scene while the injured were left on the roadway.
