Four homeless after fire destroys Grove house
Four persons are now homeless after their Lot 243 Downer Street, Grove, East Bank Demerara house was destroyed by a fire on Saturday.
The Guyana Fire Service on Sunday said it received a call about the fire at 13:10 hrs and immediately deployed water tenders from the Eccles and Diamond fire stations.
When they arrived, the one-flat wooden building was engulfed in flames.
Belinda Bunbury, the owner of the building, 31-year-old Ivy David and three others occupied the building.
The Fire Service said the fire started after an electrical panel was overloaded due to a fluctuation in electricity. The explosion ignited and spread to nearby combustible materials.
The fire spread to the entire building and destroyed all its contents before the firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze.
