A Venezuelan national was arrested by Police ranks on Saturday after 2.3 pounds of marijuana was found in his possession.

Police Headquarters revealed that Adrian Meddia, 29, was arrested at around 23:15 hrs after ranks acted on information received and went to Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo.

The ranks observed Meddia, a labourer from Tuschen (North squatting area), standing and holding a bulky black haversack. A rank approached him and identified himself as a Policeman dressed in plain clothing. A request to search the man for illegal objects was made and Meddia obliged, the release noted.

The rank took possession of the black haversack bag and opened it in the presence of Meddia when he discovered two bulky parcels wrapped in scotch tape and containing a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.

Meddia was told of the offence committed, cautioned, arrested and escorted to the Leonora Police Station. The marijuana was weighed and amounted to 1053.6 grammes (2.3 pounds).
Meddia was placed into custody pending investigation and charges, the Police said.
