Five Guyanese attend world’s largest agri-food expo

Five young Guyanese professionals recently attended the International Production & Processing Expo (IPPE), the world’s largest annual poultry, feed, and meat technology exposition.

This year IPPE hosted a global audience of meat, poultry, and animal food professionals together in Atlanta, Georgia showcasing the newest solutions, technologies, research, processes, services, and products that the global animal food and protein industries have to offer.

Josh McDonald, Ruth-Ann Morris, Neketa Hughes, and Shevonne Bryne are all graduates of the Guyana School of Agriculture and are in various stages of their programme at the University of Guyana.

They were facilitated and guided by their mentor Dr. Colwayne Morris, a Poultry Nutritionist in the US.

In a statement, Dr Morris said the five Guyanese were given an insight into new technology in the Poultry industry, the research capabilities globally, and explore opportunities for training in the sciences of animal production, health, welfare, environmental sustainability, nutrition, genetics, food safety etc.

He added: “Training which will help to improve their research capabilities within their area of study and better equip them to be able to apply techniques learned to benefit the livestock industry in their country and develop relationships for future collaborations for development in animal science and research.”

According to the statement, the forum presented information on industry topics such as environmental management, nutrition, physiology, pathology, processing and products, and avian diseases.

Poultry researchers, professors, veterinarians, nutritionists, graduate and undergraduate students from around the globe presented research findings on various topics.

Also, in attendance were business owners and executives, regulatory agency officials, politicians, and other key decision-makers in the Poultry and Food industry.

The IPPE is the world’s largest annual display of technology, equipment, supplies, and services used in the production and processing of eggs, meat, and poultry and those involved in feed manufacturing.

All segments of the Poultry industry are represented: feed milling, animal food, genetics, hatchery, live production and animal health, egg production and processing, poultry and meat processing, further processing, rendering, marketing, and all support activities.

The IPPE has a global reach attracting more than 8,000 International visitors from 130 countries and focuses on Innovation, Education and Networking.
