Alex Arjoon came up trumps in the Men’s 30-34 age group category at the BCQS Masters Squash Tournament, which concluded Saturday evening at Georgetown Club Courts.
Arjoon defeated Shawn Simpson of Barbados 11-5, 11-8, 11-7 in a final that lasted 29 minutes.
The national player got to the final after a tough battle with fellow Guyanese Daniel Ince, winning 11-8, 11-4, 11-13, 11-8.
Simpson topped Nicolette Fernandes, who opted to play in the Men’s category, 11-8, 17-19, 11-3, 11-6.
Fernandes defeated Ince in the third-place playoff that went five minutes short of an hour, with scores of 6-11, 11-5, 11-8, 11-7.
Trinidadian Peter Pirtheesingh won the Men’s 45-54 age group category win a perfect three out of three wins in the round-robin contest, while Don Benn of Barbados got second and Guyana’s Khalil Alli third.
In the Men’s 55-64 age group, Barbadian Mark Sealy eased to an 11-9, 11-4, 11-6 victory over Trinidadian John Holley, while Guyanese Joseph Mekdeci topped Marlon White of Barbados 11-6, 11-8, 12-10.
Barbadian Orson Simpson edged Guyana’s Dennis Dias to the Men’s 65 and Over title based on his higher percentage of game wins after there was a three-way tie on points with Barbadian Winston Findlay, all on six points.
In the Women’s 35 and Over, Kathy TenPow was unbeaten in her run to the title with a perfect four wins to finish ahead of fellow Guyanese Lydia Fraser and Tian Edwards.
The next BCQS Master tournament is slated for May 17-21 in Barbados, while next on the agenda for the Guyana Squash Association will be its Bounty Farms Handicap tournament from February 15-19.
