A fire of unknown origin on Friday afternoon destroyed a large section of the Parika Market on the East Bank of Essequibo.
Regional Police Commander, Mahendra Sewnarine told the News Room that no injuries were reported thus far.
He said that the “majority” of the market is already destroyed. The Commander could not say what caused the massive blaze but noted that the report was received at around 15:30hrs.
The Parika Market houses hundreds of vendors, including those from Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam).
