Essequibo teen dies hours after crashing into truck

Seventeen-year-old Nylon Gittens of Henrietta Village, Region Two, died at about 18:00 hrs on Sunday, mere hours after he was badly injured in a motorcycle accident.

Gittens was reportedly riding his motorcycle along the Abrams Zuil Public Road when he lost control and crashed into a truck at about 11: 30 hrs.
He was not wearing a helmet and sustained injuries to his head and body. Gittens was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Suddie Public Hospital, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit.
He later succumbed to his injuries.

Details surrounding the accident are sketchy, but the driver of the truck, a popular electrician on the Essequibo Coast, has since been detained and remains in Police custody.
