Woman robbed at knifepoint outside Main Street restaurant

Police are investigating the armed robbery of a 40-year-old Human Resource Manager of a prominent hotel who was held at knifepoint by a man in the vicinity of Main and Hope Streets, Georgetown, outside the New Thriving Restaurant.

A statement from Police Headquarters did not name the victim but noted that she was robbed of her purse which contained cash, one blue Samsung S10 cellular phone valued at $120,000; ATM cards for GBTI, Republic Bank and Demerara Bank, National Identification Card, National Insurance Scheme Card, and other documents.

According to the release, the woman was standing outside the restaurant waiting for transportation to go home when the bandit accosted her; he pointed the knife at her and grabbed the purse.

Police said the woman sustained an injury to her right knee as the suspect escaped toward Tiger Bay.

The victim went to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where she was medically examined, treated, and sent away.

The Police are set to review CCTV cameras in the area.
