Woman dies hours after accident, injured driver on the run

Samantha Moffatt, a 41-year-old vendor of Haslington New Scheme, East Coast Demerara (ECD) died Wednesday afternoon, hours after she was flung from a car after it careened off the road into a nearby trench.

Police are on the hunt for the driven, a 24-year-old man of Middle Walk, Buxton, ECD, who escaped after he was also transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital with injuries.

Police Headquarters said in a statement that the accident occurred at about 05:00hrs on the Enmore Public Road, ECD.

“Motorcar #PZZ 7712 was proceeding east along the northern driving lane on the Enmore Public Road East at a fast rate of speed when the driver lost control and ended up in a trench on the southern side of the road.

“As a result, the female occupant, who was seated in the front passenger seat, was flung out of the car and into the trench, where she received injuries about her body,” the statement noted.

The woman’s body is presently lying at the GPHC Mortuary awaiting an autopsy.

Investigations are in progress.
