Police are investigating the attempted murder of a 22-year-old gold miner who was brutally beaten on Thursday during an argument and two of his three attackers have since been arrested.

Injured is Ryan Williams of Byderabo Village, Essequibo River. The incident occurred at about 16:00hrs at Byderabo Road, Bartica.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) in a press statement on Friday said that the victim’s reputed wife, Annalisa Pereira, told investigators that Williams, who was under the influence, had an argument with one of the suspects’ girlfriends.

The argument subsequently subsided.

However, when one of the suspects returned home and learned of what transpired, the matter escalated.

“The two brothers and the 17-year-old female then went to the victim’s house and confronted him, during which they allegedly dealt him several lashes about his body and head with a piece of wood, causing injuries,” the Police explained.

The two brothers live next to Williams and his wife.

Williams was rushed to the Bartica Hospital and hours later, he was air-dashed to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) for emergency medical treatment. His condition is listed as critical.

Two of the suspects, ages 17 and 20, are currently in custody.

“Efforts are underway to arrest the 25-year-old suspect,” the Police said.
