Update: Husband dies hours after wife killed in Bartica accident
David Huggins, the man who was critically injured in an accident that claimed the life of his wife on Thursday, succumbed to his injuries.
The News Room understands that 26-year-old Huggins died just after noon while receiving medical attention on Friday at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
His wife, 23-year-old Felicia Lewis died in the accident which occurred around 15:40hrs at Fourth Avenue and Fifth Street, Bartica.
At the time, Huggins and Lewis were on a motorcycle when they collided with a car. According to the Police, the car, PRR 5669, was proceeding South along the road and failed to stop at the ‘stop sign’ on Fifth Street, Bartica.
It is alleged that Huggins was speeding and collided with the right-side front portion of the car.
Both Huggins and his wife were picked up by public-spirited persons in an unconscious state and taken to the Bartica Regional Hospital where the woman was pronounced dead.
Huggins remained unconscious; he suffered severe head trauma and was air-dashed to the city hospital by the Guyana Defence Force.
The driver of the car was identified as 66-year-old Byron Prearson, a taxi driver of Mongrippa Hill, Bartica is currently in police custody.
