Driver, 24, dies in accident; teenager hospitalised
A 24-year-old man died on Saturday after he lost control of the car he was driving while in the vicinity of Auchlyne Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice and crashed into a Guyana Power and Light (GPL) pole.
Police Headquarters on Saturday said that Ezekiel Kampadoo, a hire car driver of Tain, died while receiving treatment at the Port Mourant Public Hospital.
The police also said an 18-year-old boy who was also in the car is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
Police Headquarters said the car was speeding west when the driver failed to negotiate a right turn and lost control of the vehicle. The car swerved onto the parapet and collided with a GPL pole.
The car then flipped and ended up in a trench; the driver and teenage occupant were taken to the Port Mourant Hospital and Kampadoo was treated and transferred to New Amsterdam Public Hospital.
He succumbed to his injuries at about 03:30 hrs while receiving medical attention. His body is presently lying at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital’s Mortuary awaiting an autopsy.3
