Venezuelan man injured after collision with GDF boat at Eteringbang

A 35-year-old Venezuelan national is nursing injuries after a Guyana Defence Force (GDF) boat collided with his vessel in the vicinity of Eteringbang Landing on Friday.

Reports reaching the News Room revealed that Vergil Brown, a gold miner, was the captain of a 40 HP engine boat carrying two passengers when the GDF boat collided with him about 9:30 hrs in the Cuyuni River, in the vicinity of Eteringbang Landing.

The GDF boat was being captained by Corporal 21053 Frazer. It was occupied by two other ranks.

Reports are that at the time, the GDF ranks were returning to the Eteringbang soldier base after purchasing groceries.

As a result of the collision, Brown’s boat substantial damage and sunk. He and the two passengers were taken to shore.

However, Brown was the only one to have sustained injuries. He was taken to the Eteringbang Medical Center and later transferred to a medical facility in Venezuela.

A police investigation is ongoing.
