Police find ‘ganja’ buried in businessman’s backyard

A 45-year-old businessman of Block 22 Squatting Area, Wismar, Linden was arrested after police found over five pounds of marijuana buried in his backyard.

The discovery was made just after midnight on Sunday.

The Guyana Police Force said its ranks were acting on information received when they went to the man’s premises.

The ranks went to an area at the back of the yard which was dug up and they found a five-gallon bucket that contained two bulky parcels.

In the two parcels, the Police ranks found seven smaller parcels, all containing a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.

The businessman was told of the offense committed which he denied.

He was later escorted to Issano Police Station along with the suspected narcotics where it was weighed in his presence and amounted to 2413.9 grams.

The suspected narcotics were sealed and lodged while the businessman is presently in custody assisting with the ongoing investigation.
