Family in desperate search for beauty queen; wants her to return to Guyana

Despite conflicting reports, family members of Ruqayyah Boyer are maintaining that she is still missing in the United States of America, where she migrated a few years ago, and are pleading for her safe return so they can offer her the best possible care.

In fact, the Guyanese beauty queen, who won both the Miss Universe and Miss World titles back home in 2012 and 2013, is reportedly diagnosed with a form of mental illness and her relatives are cautioning friends and associates against accepting her personal assurances that she is fine.

The News Room spoke with Boyer’s sister, Mariscla, on Tuesday, who said that the family remains deeply concerned for her safety and want her to return to Guyana where her mother will take care of her.

With suspicion that she was headed to Los Angeles, Mariscla confirmed that Boyer was last seen on February 16, 2023, at the Chicago Union Station.

The 33-year-old, who is also known as a singer in Guyana, has reportedly resisted efforts by her family in recent months for her to reside with them and has been roaming from state to state.

“She told a friend she was going to LA but the friend has no address or anything. And I don’t know that she has friends or family there but Ruqayyah loves LA.

“She was in New Jersey and then she moved to Washington after she left on her own free will and we found her there and she was hospitalised for three days but then she left again.

“But from what I know, she told doctors and Police that she has no interest in coming back and this is America, they let her go,” Mariscla told the News Room.

Despite this, the worried sister is insisting that Boyer is not in the right frame of mind to make this decision and the family thinks it is best she returns to Guyana to live with her mother.

“She doesn’t want to take her medication and we can’t keep her in the house.

“In Guyana, we can better care for her there, but right now we have no clue where she is,” the sister related.

Mariscla said the family has been trying to take care of Ruqayyah since 2020.

“She doesn’t think anything is wrong with her,” the sister said.

Ruqayyah was crowned Miss Guyana Universe in 2012, Miss World Guyana in 2013 and Miss International Guyana in 2014 but talked about hanging up her pageant crowns to pursue her true passion for music.

This is a sad state of affairs for a person of Ms. Boyer’s status. I do hope that something could be done for her quickly and that she could get the necessary care and attention she needs. She reminds me of Gloria David who was once a Guyanese actress of renowned fame and later migrated to the United States of America. The rest is history. Things did not go down well for Gloria eventually. That pretty Guyanese girl.
