All-rounder Jason Holder and wicketkeeper Joshua Da Silva scored half-centuries on Tuesday to lead West Indies’ batting effort on day one of their three-day warm-up game against a South African Invitational XI in Benoni.

At stumps, West Indies were 283-9 from 89 overs after the South African Invitational XI won the toss and opted to bowl first.

Da Silva is not out on 54 off 129 balls (6x4s), with Shannon Gabriel his partner on two.

Da Silva and Holder put together the highest partnership of the day, 98 for the sixth wicket as West Indies lost wickets at regular intervals.

    Holder scored 57 off 62 balls (9x4s, 1×6).

All-rounder Roston Chase, batting at number nine, chipped in with 35 off 32 (3x4s, 2x6s), while Raymon Reifer, batting at three, made 30 off 109 balls (4x4s).

The other batsmen dismissed were Kraigg Brathwaite (23), Tagenarine Chanderpaul (1), Devon Thomas (21), Jermaine Blackwood (18), Kyle Mayers (17) and Alzarri Joseph (0).

Corbin Bosch (2-17), Irvin Modimokoane (2-39) and Smangaliso Nhlebela (2-71) were the main wicket-takers for the South African Invitational XI.

West Indies are preparing to face South Africa in a two-Test series, with matches to start on February 28 in Centurion and March 8 in Johannesburg.

This will be followed by three ODIs and three T20Is in March.
