Police Sergeant, Corporal injured in accident


Two Policemen are nursing serious injuries and are hospitalised at the New Amsterdam Hospital after a car crashed into them at Heathburn, East Bank Berbice public road on Thursday.

Injured are Alden Reynolds, 40, Police Corporal #18389 and Javon Thomas, 37, Police Sergeant #20094.

The News Room understands that the accident occurred at about 11:20 hrs and involved hire car HD 2816, owned and driven by Troy Henry, 50, of Edinburgh Village, East Bank Berbice.

According to reports, Henry lost control of his speeding car and crashed into a parked vehicle (PAC 4187) at the side of the road; the two cops were standing next to the parked vehicle when Henry also crashed into them.

Both policemen were rendered unconscious at the scene and were rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital.

Henry was subsequently arrested at the scene and a breathalyzer test found that he was above the legal limit of alcohol (.48 and .51).
