Confessed cocaine trafficker jailed, fined $1.7M

A 45-year-old Pike Street resident was on Friday sentenced to three years and six months imprisonment and fined $1.7 million for trafficking cocaine.

Eon Martin appeared before City Magistrate Leron Daly and admitted to trafficking 1.158 kilograms (2.55 lbs) of cocaine on February 21, 2023, at Norton Street, Wortmanville, Georgetown.

On the day in question, Martin was arrested at the home of 50-year-old Andre Clarke during a search by ranks of the Customs Anti Narcotic Unit (CANU) which unearthed the brick of cocaine.

According to CANU, the drug has a street value of GY$1.1 million. Although Clarke was arrested by CANU, he was not charged with the crime.

Last year, Clarke was charged with trafficking $1.5M worth of cocaine. He is currently on $150,000 bail for the offence.

In 2018 Clarke was again fingered in a drug seizure after an associate of his was arrested on his premises with a quantity of cocaine.
