Chaterpaul Singh, called “Dutchie”, a self-confessed drug dealer, was on Friday sentenced to serve four years imprisonment and fined $1.3 million for trafficking cannabis.

The charge was withdrawn against Anesia Isfehani, 24, of Crown Dam Industry, East Coast Demerara, after Singh opted to take the rap.

The pair appeared before City Magistrate Leron Daly for allegedly trafficking 1.542 kilograms (3.3 lbs) of cannabis on February 21, 2023, at Norton Street, Georgetown.

Magistrate Daly, after considering the prevalence of the crime and that Singh did not waste the court’s time, sentenced him to serve four years and also imposed a fine of $1,387,800.

According to reports, on the day in question, ranks from the Customs Anti Narcotic Unit (CANU) acted on a ‘tip-off’ and conducted an operation at Norton Street, where they intercepted a motor vehicle (PHH 9387).

Singh was reportedly the driver while Isfehani was a passenger.

A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of three brick-like parcels of cannabis, which had a street value of $500,000.

Singh, along with a hotel owner, is currently awaiting trial at the High Court for conspiring to execute a Lethem businessman.
