$1B in contracts awarded to push housing development in Bartica

Housing development will advance in Bartica, Region Seven (Cuyuni- Mazaruni) following the award of three contracts totalling just over $1 billion on Friday.

Construction will be undertaken by three separate contractors who signed contracts at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre, Liliendaal, Georgetown.

The contractors are K and K Construction and Hardware Supplies, Empire Mining Inc and A.M.R Engineering and General Services.

The respective sums are $460,539,240, $377,036,835 and $249,956,123.

With these contracts inked, infrastructure development works at Lots One to Three in Bartica, and wider infrastructure development works will be executed.

During his budget presentation, Minister of Housing and Water Collin Croal had announced that the construction of the houses at Bartica is part of the big plans for the sector this year.

On Friday, a total of 126 contracts were signed at the tune of $56 billion for infrastructure works in several regions across the country.

“Bartica for new housing, for construction of houses in Bartica another $1.08 blillion,” Croal said during his remarks at the ceremony.

In October 2020, Croal had met with residents of Bartica and made a commitment that the Ministry of Housing is working to acquire plots of land from the Guyana Lands and Survey Commission (GL&SC) in Region Seven.

These contracts were part of the 126 contracts inked on Friday by the Housing and Water Ministry. The contracts all amounted to $56.8 billion but three of those are slated for retendering.
