Porter dies after truck topples while descending hill

An accident on the Toroparo Trail in Cuyuni-Mazaruni in the wee hours of Sunday resulted in the death of Troy Alexander Davis, a 37-year-old porter of Tabatinga Housing Scheme, Lethem.
Police Headquarters reported that motor lorry GYY 7764 was descending a hill when the driver lost control and toppled several times. As a result, the truck owner who was driving, 43-year-old Hubert Beharry, was flung out from the vehicle while the porter remained pinned underneath.
While Beharry, a gold miner of #27 Village, West Coast Berbice, was conscious at the scene, Davis was not; both men were rushed to the Pappy Show landing and examined by Medic on duty.
Beharry was treated for minor injuries and David was pronounced dead. A post-mortem examination is to be conducted on the body.
The lorry driver is in custody, assisting with the ongoing investigation.
