A building situated at Lot 6971 Norton Street, Georgetown was destroyed by fire in the wee hours of Monday.
The Guyana Fire Service said the building’s owner and occupant remained unknown hours after the blaze that also damaged three nearby properties.
The fire reportedly started at about 00:21 hrs.
The Guyana Fire Service is currently investigating the circumstances that led to the fire.
In a statement, it said, “water tenders and carriers from the Central, West Ruimveldt, Campbellville, and Alberttown fire stations responded to the scene, where firefighters saw a one-storey wooden and concrete building engulfed in flames.”
While the fire was extinguished, its origin remains unknown and all the contents of the building were destroyed.
