Eagles defeat Strikers in nail-biting five-setter in DVA League Playoff

In a thrilling playoff match that kept fans on the edge of their seats, Premier Eagles and Castrol Strikers battled it out in a nail-biting five-setter in the Demerara Volleyball Association’s (DVA) League on Monday night at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.

In the first set, Premier Eagles set the tone, dominating Castrol Strikers with a score of 25-19. However, Strikers quickly bounced back in the second set, managing to score 27 points to the Eagles’ 25.

The third set was equally intense, with Premier Eagles managing to come out on top with a score of 25-21. In the fourth set, Strikers took control of the game, scoring 25 points to the Eagles’ 20, setting up a thrilling fifth set to decide the winner.

In the final set, the Premier Eagles once again took charge, displaying exceptional skill and precision to score 15 points, while the Castrol Strikers could only manage nine.

The match saw outstanding performances from both teams, with Premier Eagles’ T. McRae leading the way with 17 points, followed closely by I. Bagot, who scored 15 points, and T. Groenhart, who added 10 points to the scoreboard.

Castrol Strikers’ top scorers were S. Norah with 17 points, K. Richards with 11 points, and N. Karelo with 11 points.

“The match was packed with excitement, intensity, and incredible athleticism, making it a must-see for all sports enthusiasts,” the DVA said.

“The match showcased the athleticism, agility, and strategic gameplay that make volleyball such an exciting sport to watch. The intensity and drama of the match were palpable, with every point fiercely contested by both teams.”

With the win, Eagles have secured their spot in the next round of the Playoff.

The competition will continue on Thursday evening at the same venue with Guyana Defence Force taking on Young Achievers.
