A Police search for the mother of a newborn baby boy who was abandoned in a gift bag at Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara on Monday, has been successful.
The juvenile mother was located in the same Mahaicony, Region Five area.
She was immediately brought to the city and is now institutionalized in a medical facility with her child.
Authorities at the Child Care and Protection Agency and the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security were informed and are reportedly actively involved.
Police Headquarters reported on Tuesday that ranks from the Mahaicony Police Station received an anonymous call around 14.45 hrs on Monday after which a team of officers went to Recess, Mahaicony and found the newborn baby in a clump of bushes.
The afterbirth was still attached, the Police Force said.
The baby was taken to the Mahaicony Hospital where he was admitted in the maternity ward.
