Zeelugt man in critical condition following early morning accident

A 37-year-old resident of Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo is in a critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital after he was struck down by a car in the wee hours of Thursday.

Hospitalised with head injuries and a broken arm is Ramkissoon Mangru known as Sunesh; the accident occurred just after midnight on Wednesday on the Zeelugt Public Road.

Regional Commander, Mahendra Siwnarine, told the News Room that Mangru attempted to cross the road when the driver of motorcar PPP 4138 struck him down.

According to the Commander, the driver claimed that he tried to swerve but was unsuccessful.

Mangru was first taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital and then transferred to the West Demerara Regional Hospital. The News Room understands that the man was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital for further medical treatment.

The driver is currently in police custody and is assisting with the investigation.
