Guyana’s First Son, Zayd Ali on Friday hosted a successful Lemonade sale at State House and all proceeds went directly to the Guyana Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA).

Donors turned out in their numbers at State House where First Lady, Arya Ali accompanied Zayd and the President of the non-profit organisation, Oliver Insanally for the handing over of the money.

A cheque of $1,350,000 was handed over to the organisation but later in the day, more donations poured in and amounted to $1,850,000 but this is expected to increase by the end of the sale.

The proceeds will go towards the procedures that are conducted free of cost by the organisation. Some of these services include vaccination, deworming, spaying and neutering surgeries performed by qualified and experienced veterinarians.

The First Lady explained that Zayd is an animal ambassador and she praised his advocacy for animal welfare. She further said that the charity event was a way for State House through Zayd, to give much-needed assistance to “our little friends on four feet.”

Zayd was also recognised for his outstanding contribution to the well-being of animals with a Certificate of Honourary Life Membership.

Meanwhile, Insanally expressed gratitude to the First Family for the initiative and said this donation will add to the annual subvention from the government.

“We also rely on donations to help fund our activities, so events like these are very important to help sustain our operations,” Insanally said.
