One feared dead, two rescued after boat capsizes at Bonasika Creek

A 19-year-old farmer is missing and two other men were rescued after the boat in which they were travelling capsized in the Bonasika Creek, Essequibo River.

Reports are that the mishap occurred around 21:00hrs on Saturday.

The victims have been identified as Mark LaCruz , 24, a labourer of Upper Bonasika; Chino (only name given), 17 and Anthonio (only name given), 19, both farmers of Region One.

They were in a wooden paddle boat heading home to Bonasika.

According to information reaching the News Room, LaCruz related to the Police that he, Chino and Anthonio were drinking alcohol in the boat when one of the occupants started to rock the boat.

Shortly after, the boat capsized, and all of them fell into the creek.

La Cruz and Anthonio managed to swim to shore and they were rescued by residents in the area.

However, Chino never made it out of the creek.

A report was made to the Bonasika police outpost and La Cruz and Anthonio were taken into Police custody to assist with the investigation.
