The driver of a hire car and a female passenger died on Sunday following an early morning accident along the No.19 Public Road, Corentyne Highway, Region Six.

Dead are Shelliza London, 26 and Qualis Crawford, 40, of West Canje Berbice.

The News Room understands that there were two other passengers inside the car who sustained minor injuries. It is alleged that the driver lost control of the car and crashed; the vehicle ended up inside a nearby trench.

The wife of Crawford, Malissa April, disclosed that at approximately 03:00 hrs Sunday, she received a telephone call from one of her husband’s friends that he was involved in an accident.

While on her way to the scene, April said she received another telephone call that her husband died.

“When I go there I see he and the female both lying dead. On the right-hand side, it had a dead cow and like he hit the sand that was on the right side too and the car flip into the trench,” the distraught wife said.

London and Crawford were rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where they were both pronounced dead.

She remembers Crawford as always being helpful with a smile on his face but life has now dealt her a double blow since she also lost her mother a month ago.

What a double tragedy indeed this is for Ms. April whose mother died just one month ago. Hold the faith my dear and remember behind every dark cloud there is a silver lining. However, my sympathy goes out to you and other grieving relatives of your husband. I also sympathize with the relatives of Ms. London who in my opinion, has gone too soon. May God comfort you all in this time of your bereavement.
