A 26-year-old woman died on Monday after she was brutally stabbed by her husband who tried to take his own life after committing the act.
Dead is Aneeza Ishmael of Hope Estate, East Coast Demerara (ECD). Her attacker who goes by the alias “Otis” is currently admitted as a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital under police guard.
Police sources confirmed the incident which occurred around 10:00 hrs at the couple’s Hope Estate, ECD home.
According to information reaching the News Room, the couple, who shared a common-law relationship had an ongoing domestic issue that stemmed from the suspect accusing Ishmael of being unfaithful.
Reports are that Ishmael left the house on Friday and went to her friend’s place at Better Hope, ECD where she stayed for a few days.
On Monday morning, she returned home in the company of her 21-year-old sister to collect her belongings.
Whilst there, the News Room understands that Ishmael was confronted by the suspect who pleaded with her not to leave. However, Ishmael insisted that she only came there for her belongings.
As a result, the suspect became annoyed, pulled out a knife and attacked Ishmael.
Ishmael’s sister pushed her and told her to run but the suspect gave chase and stabbed her several times, the News Room was told.
The suspect then turned his attention to Ishmael’s sister but she managed to fend him off.
He subsequently collapsed to the ground after consuming a poisonous substance.
The couple were both escorted to the Nabacalis Hospital where Ishmael succumbed around 12:20 hrs.
Police recovered a knife and an empty bottle believed to be the one that contained the substance the suspect consumed.
