Carl Parker, a 59-year-old unemployed resident of Hiowa Creek, Central Rupununi was arrested and charged on Wednesday for threatening behaviour against Dale Kennedy, a 51-year-old Contractor of Tabatinga, Lethem on March 04, 2023.

Parker, represented by Attorney Darren Wade, appeared before Magistrate Allan Wilson at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read to him. He pleaded not guilty.

Self-bail was granted to the defendant and the matter was adjourned to March 22, 2023 for a report/statement.

Parker was also charged along with Godfrey Williams, called ‘Cut Mouth’, a 55-year-old miner of Tabatinga Village, Lethem with malicious damage to property.

They pleaded not guilty. Bail was granted in the sum of $30,000 each.

Parker and Williams were charged for their behavior and actions in response to the regional administration’s decision to demolish a government building the People’s National Congress Reform (PNC/R) was reportedly illegally occupying at Lethem, Region Nine.

The building was used by the Opposition party to conduct party business and was recently partly demolished by the authorities after the PNC ignored several notices to vacate the premises.

According to Police Headquarters, “They then entered the compound, abusing the contractor and his workers and chasing them from the building, telling them to leave.”
