The skeletal remains, suspected to be that of a 55-year-old woman, were discovered at her Lot 43 Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo house on Tuesday at around 10:00 hrs.

Police Headquarters identified the woman as Basmattie Seenanon, called Savitree; she was last seen alive sometime around July or August 2022.

According to the Police, the woman’s 39-year-old nephew of Zeelugt was playing Phagwah in the area and decided to check on her when he made the discovery.

The woman’s remains were found on a bed in the upper flat of the two-storey house surrounded by a quantity of garbage.

The Police said that neighbours and other persons were questioned in the area and according to her brother-in-law, a 61-year-old mechanic in the area, she had suffered a mental breakdown.

“She used to distance herself from family members and was abusive to people around the community,” Police Headquarters noted.

The skeletal remains were taken to Ezekiel Funeral Home awaiting an autopsy.

What a long time for the skeletal remains of human to remain on earth. I am afraid that house has to be properly sanitized before anyone else could occupy it. I am however surprised that neighbours did not experience a foul smell and report same to the police regardless of the type of person she was.
