‘Raising the bar’ – Innovations America certified to retail quality, safe products

Innovations America is the newest Guyanese company to become ISO certified and on Thursday hosted a reveal ceremony, putting on display its certificates for quality, safety and environmentally friendly practices.

The move to certify its integrated management systems with the ISO 9001: 2015; ISO 45001:2018 and ISO 14001:2015 was hailed by business leaders and politicians as a step in the right direction and one to be emulated by other local businesses.

Innovations American started as a small hardware store in 2016 but has grown exponentially over the years to become one of the leading local retailers of plumbing and electrical supplies, home décor and other household necessities

Reflecting on this at the ceremony hosted at the 704 Sky Lounge on Lamaha Street, Georgetown, Managing Director, Lorenzo Alphonso said the aim is always “to better serve Guyana by firstly providing international service and impeccable customer care.

He said the business was the first among companies in Guyana’s import and retail sector to be ISO certified.

“This achievement was not accomplished overnight. It was dedication and hard work,” he said while pledging continuous commitment to ensuring the highest product quality in compliance with international regulations.

“We look forward to the customer satisfaction and growth this will bring.”

The company was hailed for this progressive step by President of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), Timothy Tucker, who urged other businesses to take similar steps to ensure customers enjoy first world service.

The move towards certification was also recognised by the government with Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal and Finance Minister, Dr. Ashni Singh attending the event.

“Guyana is changing rapidly… you can see it in the changing city scape… this modern Guyana must not comprise of only new infrastructure.

“The point to make is that we don’t want visitors to see modernity but walk into businesses and government agencies and they feel like they are stepping back into the stone ages,” Dr. Singh posited.

He said all local agencies and commercial enterprises should now be doing business in a way that meets world class standards.

“There was a time in Guyana we didn’t think these things matter but today can’t do good business without these certifications,” Dr. Singh added.

Innovation America boasts of only stocking genuine USA and UK certified products and prides itself in bringing only quality products for the local market.

The company believes this certification is a landmark in its journey towards continuous improvement.
