Residents of Linden, Region 10 picketed the office of bauxite mining company, BOSAI Minerals, on Sunday calling for a complete halt to operations until a missing employee is located.

Employed as an operator with the company for the last 40 years, Neptrid Hercules went missing in the wee hours of Saturday and is now feared dead after a plot of land he was working on swallowed him and the bulldozer he was operating.

Search and rescue operations ongoing

Although a search and rescue operation was immediately launched, more than 24 hours later the man and the equipment remain missing.

According to reports, Hercules was working a bulldozer to clear a plot of land when it caved in.

The man and the bulldozer are believed to be trapped several feet beneath the ground.

The operator has been identified as Neptune Hercules.

On Saturday, employees of the company used heavy machinery to clear the area but although they were supported by metal detectors, the search proved futile.

Now, family members and residents of the community are aggrieved that the company’s operations continue unaffected.

Hercules was set to retire later this year.
