Linden contractor remanded for attempted murder of Police Sergeant

Fawaz McRae, a building contractor from Linden, Region Ten, was on Wednesday remanded to prison for attempting to murder his cousin, Police Sergeant, Jermain Semple, who is currently on life support.

McRae, 27 of Central Amelia’s Ward, appeared before Magistrate Wanda Fortune at the Linden Magistrate’s Court; he was not required to plead to the charge, which alleged that on March 12, 2023, he discharged a loaded firearm at Semple with the intent to murder him.

McRae was remanded to prison. According to reports Semple, who is attached to the Tactical Services Unit (TSU), was shot by his cousin during a fight on Sunday night.

Reports indicate that Semple, his brother, and McRae were imbibing at the Crown and Anchor Grill and Bar when a fight started between the Police Sergeant and his brother.

It is alleged that McRae, who is a licensed firearm holder, attempted to intervene when Semple allegedly turned his attention to him.

McRae pulled out his firearm and opened fire in Semple’s direction.

The News Room had reported that Semple was shot twice, including to his head. He is currently on life support at the Linden Hospital Complex.
