Two arrested as police seize unlicensed guns, marijuana during operation in Region #7

Police ranks in Region Seven seized two unlicensed firearms and over 700 grams of Marijuana during an operation at the weekend in the Sewanda and Turtle Creek backdam area.

The ranks were acting on intelligence gathered.

As they approached a shop, a 39-year-old man threw a purple haversack on the ground.

Upon inspecting the bag, the ranks found 22 transparent parcels of leaves, seeds and stem suspected to be cannabis.

The man was told of the offence, cautioned and arrested.

Further, during the operation at about 02:15 hrs, while approaching a camp in the backdam, an identifiable man was seen running away from the camp.

The ranks gave chase but were unable to apprehend the man. During a subsequent search of the camp, the ranks found a black 9mm Pistol.

While over at Turtle Creek Backdam, the ranks went to a camp belonging to a 58-year-old Brazilian man. They searched the camp and its immediate environs. During the search, they found a 12-gauge shotgun hidden behind a tree a short distance from the camp.

The 58-year-old man was told of the offence and admitted ownership of the firearm under caution.

The suspects, along with the firearms and cannabis, were escorted to the Enachu Police Station, where the cannabis was weighed and amounted to 739.6 grams.

The suspects are presently in custody awaiting charges.
