Duo busted at Charity with 30lbs imported marijuana worth $5M

Two men are in police custody after they were busted along the Essequibo Coast with some 30lbs of marijuana on Monday.

The men were identified as Naresh Ramdeen, 37, of Jack low, Pomeroon River and Stefan Mohammed, 29, of Coffee Grove, Essequibo Coast.

A statement from the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit noted that its ranks intercepted a hire car with the two male occupants at Charity, Region Two.

A subsequent search was conducted on the vehicle in the presence of the occupants when 12 brick-like parcels of suspected marijuana were found.

The men were arrested and escorted to CANU Headquarters along with the suspected narcotic. The narcotic was tested and weighed and discovered to be imported marijuana with a total weight of approximately 30lbs and a street value of approximately $5 million.

Investigations are ongoing.
