Guyana Harpy Eagles skipper Leon Johnson kept Jamaica Scorpions at bay on day one of the fourth round match in the Regional Four-Day Championship at the National Stadium, Providence.
Johnson, playing his last season of regional cricket for Guyana, scored his seventh First-Class ton in his 126th game to lead Harpy Eagles to 268-9 by stumps on Wednesday.
Johnson, who scored 62 and 74 in the last round against Trinidad and Tobago Red Force, ended the day on a majestic 142 not out off 248 balls, an innings that included 16 fours.
The innings was the glue of the Harpy Eagles’ innings, as the batters struggled in the opening session, which ended with the home side four wickets down.

“It feels to good (to score a hundred), especially knowing that we were 50-odd for four at lunch,” 35-year-old Johnson said at stumps.
“You know you always remember the good scores you get when your team under a bit of pressure. I was able to play freely in the last session because I did all the hard work upfront.”
