Sophia vendor shot after arson attempt on his house

A 39-year-old vendor was shot in the wee hours of Friday by a man, who allegedly tried to set his house on fire.

Police Headquarters said the incident occurred at about 03:00hrs at ‘B’ Field Sophia, Reserve Dam.

The 39-year-old victim occupied the house with his wife and two children; he was shot in his hip.

According to the Police report, the victim was sleeping, when he was awoken by the smell of smoke; upon checking, he saw smoke at the southern side of his house.

And when he opened the door, he was confronted by an unidentifiable man.

“The victim then heard a loud explosion, which sounded like a gunshot, and began feeling a burning sensation in his right hip,” the Police said.

The southern door of the house was scorched.

The victim is currently receiving treatment at Georgetown Public Hospital’s Accident and Emergency Unit. His condition is stable.

A suspected 9mm spent shell was found at the scene.
