Second-half strikes by Liam Gordon and Jeremy Garrett spurred Guyana’s Golden Jaguars to a 2-0 victory over Bermuda at Dame Flora Duffy Sports Complex on Saturday.

Gordon broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute and Garrett consolidated Guyana’s position with a strike six minutes later to keep the dream alive of another Gold Cup qualification.

Jaguars now head to Barbados where they play Montserrat on March 28 from 19:00h.

Jaguars are seeking to directly qualify for this year’s Gold Cup and therefore need to win their remaining matches against Bermuda and Montserrat but also hope that powerhouses Haiti, who leads the group, do not win their fixtures.

What can be secured with the second-place spot is a spot in the Gold Cup Preliminary Round, as the country is hopeful to return after making its first appearance in the 2019 edition.

Guatemala defeated Guyana 4-0 in the Gold Cup preliminaries in 2021.

Golden Jaguars squad:

Goalkeepers: Quillan Roberts, Akel Clarke and Kai McKenzie-Lyle

Defenders: Colin Nelson, Jeremy Garrett, Jaylen Jones, Bayli Spencer Adams, Marcus Wilson, Liam Gordon, Kadel Daniel, Samuel Cox and Johnny Grant.

Midfielders: Curtez Kelman, Daniel Wilson, Nathan Moriah Welch, Elliot Bonds and Leo Lovell.

Forwards: Emery Welshman, Omari Glasgow, Pernell Schultz, Trayon Bobb, Kelsey Benjamin and Tre Medford.
