Guyana Harpy Eagles were battling to regain supremacy against the Leeward Islands Hurricanes by stumps on day two of their fifth and final round game in the West Indies Four-Day Championship at the National Stadium, Providence, on Thursday.

After relinquishing a first innings lead of 125, Harpy Eagles closed the rain-affected day on 48-1, still 77 runs away from avoiding an innings defeat.

Test opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul is not out on 20 and Kevlon Anderson on 19, with young Matthew Nandu the man dismissed for three by Jeremiah Louis.

Hurricanes, starting the day on 133-5 in response to Harpy Eagles first innings score of 122, were dismissed for 247 on a day that had two rain interruptions.

Jahmar Hamilton topscored with an unbeaten 58 off 131 balls (6x4s), the lone individual half-century of the game thus far; Kofi James made 42 and Kieran Powell 39.

Fast bowler Nial Smith took 4-33, left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul 3-51 and off-spinner Kevin Sinclair 2-48 for Harpy Eagles, who will look to have a solid batting day on Friday with the hope of setting a target beyond the reach of the Hurricanes.
