Executive Member of the Working People’s Alliance (WPA), Tacuma Ogunseye is still in Police custody after surrendering on Friday following the issuance of a wanted bulletin.

“There was no further development in the investigation today as far as we have been advised,” his lawyer, Nigel Hughes told the News Room on Sunday.

The News Room understands that Ogunseye was interviewed/questioned by detectives on Saturday but chose to remain silent throughout the process.

“Tacuma at the commencement of the interview informed the interviewer that he was a member of the executive of the Working People’s Alliance (WPA) and the WPA has been in politics for over forty years during [which] time it had always adhered to the parameters for public meetings.

“He informed the interviewer that he would have nothing to say during the course of the interview,” Hughes posted on his Facebook page.

Ogunseye surrendered at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Vlissengen Road, Georgetown Headquarters.

Police Headquarters noted that he was wanted for “several serious offences” including attempting to excite hostility or ill-will on the grounds of race contrary to section three of the Racial Hostility Act.

The Police said that the incident occurred on March 9 at Buxton Public Road, East Coast Demerara.

On the day in question, the WPA held a public meeting in the community during which Ogunseye called on Afro-members of the Disciplined Services to ‘turn their guns’ on the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) government.

He also accused the government of deploying discriminatory policies that disproportionately impact some Guyanese.
