Yearwood, Hohenkirk and Phillips spur Georgetown to DCB U-19 title

National Under-19 batsman Shamar Yearwood cracked a pugnacious century while teammates Nehemiah Hohenkirk and Ravaldo Phillips bagged five-wicket hauls which led Georgetown to a massive victory in the final of the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) Under-19 Inter-Association 50-Over tournament.

Yearwood struck six maximums and 10 fours in his 117, and along with Mavindra Dindyal (62), they led Georgetown U-19s to 255-8 from 50 overs at the Georgetown Cricket Club, Bourda, on Sunday.

In response, pacer Hohenkirk (5-22) and Phillips (5-24) bundled East Coast Demerara for 46 in 12 overs, as Romel Datterdeen (11) was the lone man to reach double figures.

Earlier, Sasenarine Harricharran led East Coast’s charge with 5-39 while Hemraj Haripersaud (2-35) and Ajay Gainda (1-21) were also among the wickets.

For his superb exploits, Yearwood was deemed Player-of-the-final while Dindyal and Zahid Mohamed copped accolades for most runs and wickets in the preliminary matches.

Yearwood, Dindyal and Alvin Mohabir were the only three centurions in the tournament while Krsna Singh bagged a six-wicket haul.
