Dawn Hastings-Williams, the General Secretary of the main political opposition, the People’s National Congress/Reform (PNC/R), and her driver were yesterday prevented from entering the party’s headquarters at Sophia.

Following a video that surfaced on social media showing when the Party official and her driver were prevented from entering the compound, the PNC/R later clarified that the issue is not with the General Secretary but with her driver.

The PNC/R has since issued a statement clarifying that “at no time was Mrs Dawn Hastings-Williams prevented from entering Congress Place.”

Additionally, the PNC/R Leader, Aubrey Norton is quoted as saying by the Guyana Standard that “other matters” resulted in the General Secretary temporarily losing access to the party’s headquarters.

Sources at Congress Place told the News Room that the administration department of the PNC/R has “serious issues” with the driver and they have made it clear that he is not welcome on the premises.

“He [the driver] has been really disrespectful,” the source told the News Room.

According to the source, Hastings-Williams has access to a fleet of vehicles and drivers and she was told to use any of them.

One of the videos shows when Hastings-Williams exited the vehicle and tried to open the gate but she was unsuccessful.

Hastings-Williams is the second female General Secretary under Norton’s leadership; she replaced Geeta Chandan-Edmond, who resigned in December last year following a fallout.

Norton’s leadership style has come in for severe criticisms since he assumed the post in December 2021.

Like de PPP staged this event. Please disband the party of the great founder-leader-kabaka-comrade and form a new one without all this baggage.
