Guyana will introduce a dancehall ‘monarch’ competition to the list of events for next year’s Mashramani celebrations.
The dancehall competition will add to Chutney, Calypso and Soca singing competitions.
“The Ministry (of Culture, Youth and Sport) is firmly committed to seeing the expansion of this unique Guyanese product which is Mashramani and we are looking forward to seeing it turn into a real-world class event,” Minister Charles Ramson is quoted by the Department of Public Information (DPI) as saying.
“The question is, ‘Why not?’ We know that Chutney is authentic Guyanese; as a matter of fact, it started in Guyana.
“Soca is…authentic West Indian [and] so is Calypso. What else is authentic West Indian?”
