Pradesh Hardwar, a 51-year-old resident of the Zeelugt Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo, was nabbed with about 30 pounds (13.4 kilogrammes) of poppy, an imported form of cannabis, worth about $5 million.

According to a release from the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU), officers intercepted a motor vehicle (HB 5990) with Hardwar driving at Zeelugt on Tuesday.

The vehicle was reportedly searched in the presence of the occupant, which led to the discovery of 12 brick-like parcels suspected to be cannabis.

As such, Hardwar was arrested and escorted to CANU Headquarters along with the suspected narcotic.

The narcotic was tested and weighed. Officers determined that it was imported cannabis known as poppy. That amount of the narcotics has street value of approximately $5 million.

Investigations are ongoing.
