Woman, 69, dies after struck down by minibus

A 69-year-old woman was killed after she was Tuesday night struck down by a minibus on the Rupert Craig highway.

Dead is Kissoondai Sewratran of Lot 22 La Bonne Intention Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara.

Shivraj Persaud, 39, a businessman of Seaforth Street, Campbellville, Georgetown, was the driver of the bus (BAD 1832); he is in Police custody.

In his statement to Police, Persaud claimed the woman ran across the road and into the path of his vehicle. The incident occurred in the vicinity of the Movietowne Mall.

Sewrattan was examined at the scene but was pronounced dead.

    The most dangerous crossing in the city……gonna need an overpass, although we Guyanese don’t seem to like use overpass, especially carrying bags from mall.

    I think a turn lane with light needs to be put in place for mall and for buses to pick up on the service rd for both Westbound and Eastbound buses.
